Do the Germans Understand the Rest of the World?

There is a new book out (barely three weeks now) by Christoph von Marschall, entitled 'We No Longer Understand the World'.  I'm working on procuring a copy but I've read a couple of reviews of material.  He basically suggests that the German leadership (maybe journalists as well).....have been on this mission in life to make the world understand the German perception of things.....while missing the fact that they themselves may not realize where the world stands today, and how problems evolved beyond the German perception.

For a couple of years, I've come to believe that problem exists, and that this 'pursuit' of reality (in the German mind) is screwing up various relationship in Europe and the rest of the world.

Why?

I think it's the general case where you lock some folks in a compound of intellectuals.....permit only association with other intellectuals....forbid discussions beyond the 'norm'.....and you pursue only one single vision of how things should be.

Educating this group to broaden their view, and talk to regular people?  Well....the first thing they'd ask is why the intellectual view of things has failed.  Can't the 'stupid-people' get smart.....like them?

Will this new book create some enthusiasm to discuss other views in the world?  I have my doubts.  But at least they will likely read it and discuss it at length.
