Explaining Duddlekram

Shortly after the March 1933 election in Germany, which solidified Hitler and the Nazis, there were literally dozens of programs which were designed in some way to 'handcuff' the general public to a national 'feel-good' program...to help them feel as if they had some small piece of the big requirement, and brought people closer together.

So Duddlekram was designed as collecting effort.

Kids (teenagers, younger kids) would show up at your door with a collection box, and you were kinda expected to donate a cent or two, and the kids would receive 'pins' for their efforts and be recognized for their effort to 'save' the poor.

The fact that you might have these kids at your door....every single Saturday?  Well....that was part of the frustration with this game.

Failing to donate?  It could end up on some list, and be a 'notch' against you at some later date.

After the war ended, this was one of the dozens of programs which ended without much fanfare.
