Soccer in the Covid-19 Era

The German soccer season opens shortly, and the key discussion going on.....how can a club allow fans into the stadiums, with the Covid-19 rules in place?

Today, our regional TV news (HR) did a update on the Eintracht Frankfurt team, and discussed the solution that had been approved between the city and team.

First, there is a 33-page 'rule-list' of sanitation requirements.  Yeah, it is a bit extreme, and any violation could trigger a shut-down of the fan entry.

Second, total number allowed into the stadium?  6,500.  It is big enough for 51,500 fans.  So profit-wise, it's a long way from profitability.

Third, season-ticket holders go to the front of the line.

Most Germans would say it's better than nothing.  For a lot of teams, an entire season with this type of ticket sales will bring them one step closer to bankruptcy.

There's a huge part of me that says who cares. Sport, music, art and all such peripheral activities are luxuries that modern society can afford. In a time of crisis, we don't need these people or their events.

I think for a lot of Germans....this was another part of normalcy (which they haven't seen since February). Another group of Germans would hype up dance-clubs, which have yet to open in most communities. Another group of Germans would talk about the clutter of rules over school activities. With Christmas approaching, even that will not be reaching any level of normalcy.
