We are about five weeks into the coalition talks between the SPD (the winner of the September election), the Greens and the FDP.
If you follow the business....while some things were easily agreed upon, we are reaching the point where the Greens have major anchors laid out and can't find points of agreement.
So the question comes up....what if we get to mid-December and they can't agree? Well...the back-up plan is that the SPD would then approach the CDU-CSU and try to build a coalition.
The fact that the CDU is in a leadership crisis presently and trying to select a new party boss? It doesn't help the situation.
If they managed to reach late January and no coalition possible? There would be a call for a new election....which I would estimate it'd occur by late March. It's anyone's guess how a second election would be viewed by the public.
