Helmet Markworts wrote up a good commentary for Focus this morning....which hyped the idea that the Health Minister of Germany (Karl Lauterbach) got his job because of ARD/ZDF (public TV networks) that continually had him on the air....almost nightly....for the whole past year. I'd recommend a read of the piece.
Markworts even notes that a second person (a woman) was higher in the process with Scholz (the new Chancellor).
I would tend to agree with this idea. You just simple woke up one day and noticed that neither ARD or ZDF wanted to bring the actual Health Minister on the air....they wanted the SPD guy (Lauterbach). Just on plain regular interviews....he was probably doing five or six a week, and on chat forum shows....there were at least five appearances every month on various shows.
If you asked me to grade Lauterbach? He is fairly competent with doctor knowledge, an intellectual, capable of explaining things at a slightly higher degree than what the average German wants, and direct/blunt. He's also the guy who wants to go at 'fix-it' solutions at 150-to-200 percent....meaning he might shock some folks with his ideas.
It's been said that Scholz had personal chat with Lauterbach before the pick was announced, and was blunt with him....the daily appearances on ARD/ZDF have to end....if he accepts the job. Whether he actually follows through or not.....unknown. If you asked me on who loses his/her position first from among the fifteen-odd ministers? I'd rate Lauterbach almost at the top, and it'd shock me if he's still there at the end of four years.
