Disco and Covid

This story came up via NDR (regional public TV for NW Germany), and it's a complicated piece.

There's this disco up in Kampen (Isle of Sylt) called 'Joy'.  Back on Christmas eve, they ran a big party....under 2G-Plus rules (meaning you were vaxed-up/recovered, AND tested).

Eight-hundred folks showed up.   No masks required because it's 2G-plus conditions.  All within the regulations of the region.

Well....ONE guest apparently had Omikron.

The order has been sent out via the health authorities.  ALL of the 800 people now must enter home-quarantine, and WILL NOT be allowed to party up on New Year's Eve.  Two weeks of home-quarantine?  That is the suggestion.

So each of the 800 is contributing 336 of their personal man-hours for Covid safety, from which....the vaxed-up status and the test didn't really matter.

Odds of anyone ever attending another party?  It'd be curious to ask about their feelings.  Course, maybe it was a five-star party and worth the home-quarantine business.

I mean, let's be realistic, I doubt they checked thoroughly. I know I haven't been asked once when I've gone places to eat or shop. And fair enough too, poor bloody shop keepers aren't cops or ordnungsamt officials, why should they do the governments job for no recompense?

If you offered a cash for scan rebate on their taxes I'm sure that would bring some compliance. Every time a registered business scans the passes they get some sort of compensation for it. Then it'd be worth hiring someone to stand at the door like an idiot and scan the phones. Until then, I can't see any of these measures being effective.

No one has the courage to do what's really required.

Back around a month ago, when things went up a notch...the 2G/2G-plus began, and shortly after that....cops began to show up. Didn't matter which state or city, the cops made the rounds. They'd show up in a pub or restaurant. They'd make an audit (walk-around) and if you had customers without records or the necessary test (2G-plus)...not only did the guy/gal get a summons to court, but the manager/owner of the establishment got a summons as well (likely less-than-thrilled to get a fine or shutdown notice).

I noticed even here in Wiesbaden, they'd note in public news...x-number of places checked, and a shut-down notice to the establishment directed (I assume to make a point). Now, I've been out in the past month, and NOT been audited by the cops. I went to a restaurant just two nights ago, and they did a crappy job (just asking if I were vaxed-up, not asking for my 'passport'). Some have commented that onboard city buses/subways....it occurs on a frequent basis. Since I tend to avoid public transportation, I can't say this is true or not.

Like you say, no one much has the guts to go at max solutions. But I think public patience is less than it was 12 months ago. This fireworks ban for 31 December is getting more attention than when it was done in 2020. When they attempt this again in 2022....I think a fair number of people will start asking stupid questions.

If you look at Christmas shopping in German brick-and-mortar places over the past month, with 2G in place...they had fewer shoppers. The non-vax folks used Amazon and on-line shopping...so the brick-and-mortar shops were hurt. You won't know the numbers for at least a month but I'd guess they lost 20-percent of their normal 2019 business level.

You're definitely right about that.

I think we should just plan a 10 day stay at home period at the start of November 2022. 10 days at home, and we all get a fat check for complying, and those who don't comply spend 30 days in jail. Close absolutely everything. Simple. Shut the borders excluding trucks transiting through, and just be done with this whole thing once and for all.

Then we'd just need tight border controls until the rest of the world got it's shit together. Announce it soon and spend 10 months building the infrastructure, then it'd serve for refugees as well during the future influxes. Give them a safe place to stay until they can be documented properly, and until that time, it serves as a quarantine/vaccination centre.

But I'm dreaming that the German's discover some initiative and aren't just driven by their lobbyists. At least the most corrupt party isn't in Government at the moment, so it might take a few months for the current parties to be corrupted. At least it's not as bad as back home, where it's unbridled corruption and no shame or consequence.

There's plenty of corruption in Germany, but it's just kept at the city/state level, and rarely if ever noticed at the federal level (like that Austrian episode from two years ago).

Someone was being interviewed on money-laundering in Germany, and said studies had shown around 500-billion Euro worth of real estate (apartment buildings) in Germany, is held by mafia groups/families now in the country. All of this is done easily in front of city councils/mayors. Might be true...might be only half-true. Wouldn't shock me if a hundred Chinese syndicates were secretly moving 10-million Euro a day into Germany for property/business purposes.
