In the past ten days....since all this chatter started up over fake Covid vaccination cards, there's this talk of a 'chip-card' being developed and issued out to Germans....to prevent counterfeit Covid vaccination situations.
Development? Well....if you go and dig through the chatter, there's no doubt that the technology already exists, and you could contract this to some card-maker in a matter of a couple of weeks (figure some demonstrations and 'cracking' attempts by the buyer).
Cost? You have to figure both the card issue, and the reader/writer quantity. Every single clinic/hospital would have to have a couple of the readers around. The health department in each district probably would require a couple. It wouldn't shock me if you were talking about three billion Euro to reach some stage where the whole country was 'protected' by chip-cards.
Finally solving the fake Covid vaccination cards? Well, up to the stage where chip-cards can be copied and faked-up. Whoever is selected in the system to make and deliver the cards.....probably will have some back-door where 200k cards quietly disappear and are sold on the black market.
My humble belief is by early spring 2022....this chip-card idea will be openly discussed daily, and some evaluation will occur by mid-summer. The cost factor will shock some folks, but the desire to have a fool-proof system is driving this. By the end of 2022, I expect the cards to be mandated and issued out....with each person showing up at their Rothaus to get their personal card.
