Over the past month, if you went and viewed the 15-minute piece on Germany's ARD (Channel One, public TV) at 8 PM.....about two-thirds of the total time for the month is either Covid-related, Scholz-SPD-Green-FDP coalition-related, or indirectly political/governmental related. In the past week....you can add 'Omikron' to the Covid chatter.
Other than soccer scores, the weather, and maybe 90 seconds of oddball international news, regular German news.....there is nothing much else going on.
The 8 PM news being the main delivery 'vehicle' for most Germans to get their daily dose? Yes.
I was reading a social media comment the other day by a German who has gone to muting just about everything on Covid. He admitted that he'd look once a week over at his state's new or updated ban rules....to make sure he was compliant, but he really didn't want to hear the discussion anymore. Some people are suggesting that Covid-anxiety is now rampant....affecting even juveniles, and probably laying the path for some major stress issues among the general public.
All of this made me wonder....prior to February of 2020....what made up the bulk of the German nightly news?
