A Nuke Story

Here in Hessen (my regional German state).....the dismantling of the Biblis nuke plant is underway.   So HR (our regional public TV folks) brought up this topic and it's interesting.

There's thousands and thousands of tons of stuff left....that needs to be removed from the site.....to be sent to some landfill.

Well....so far, as the HR folks point out.....a minimum of 200 landfills in the region have declined.

So as things were torn apart, and concrete busted up....it now just sits there at the site....waiting.

There are two piles....the non-radioactive pile, and the radioactive waste pile.  There's something like 6,000 tons of radioactive waste in this mix.

What happens?

My humble view is that they will end up digging some huge pit for the non-radioactive stuff, and just burying there at the former nuke plant site.  But it'll be challenged for years and years over the threat business.....delaying this for probably twenty to thirty years.
