Cannabis Chatter

By the end of 2022, if the German government is true to its word....legalization of Cannabis (weed, marijuana) will occur.

I noticed on N-TV news today, there's a new debate going on.  Subject?  The authorities want a discussion on the new THC levels of Cannabis, and the effects on driving.

What this translates to?

Lets say in 1976 that regular Cannabis had a THC level of 'X'.  'X' would have been defined then as 1 to 5 percent.

Along the 1990s, THC levels (what really makes you dopey) had risen because of special growth methods.....so the 'normal' level of 5-percent was now replaced by THC levels in the range of 10-to-15 percent....meaning it was twice as powerful, and potentially more dangerous (if operating equipment or driving a car).

So in recent years, the THC levels are now up into the 20-percent range.

What N-TV discussed is the idea that the insurance industry thinks if you go this way of allowing weed....you will have to force some drivers off the road.  So the idea is.....testing by the police, and fines you are found to be 'doped-up' and driving.

The ADAC folks suggest it ought to compare to the way you handle drunks.

What'll eventually happen?  I suspect that if you are out and about on a Friday night, driving a car in Germany.....if the cops pull you over, you probably will have to be tested for Cannabis, and face a fine if you smoked in the past couple of hours.
