War Chatter

I discussed a few days ago of the Ukraine-Russia war around Kherson, and how the bridges over the Dnipro River were destroyed....making a problem for Russian conscripts on the north side of the river (no easy access for food, ammo, fuel for 20,000 troops).

Well....another target has popped up....about 20 miles up the river (to the east).  The hydro-electrical dam at Kakhova facility.  The Russians would have this bridge/dam for getting logistical vehicles over and to the front.  It appears that the Ukrainians are prepared to destroy the dam.

The next bridge to help the Russians?  Seventy miles to the NE.  I would admit....it creates a huge problem if you wanted to feed and keep a force of 20,000 'happy'.

The bigger issue?  Behind the Kakhova dam....it's a giant reservoir.  It'd empty out in a matter of an hour and lay a path of destruction around the Kherson area (both sides of the river).  I'd be guessing everything with two miles of the river (both sides) would be wiped out/destroyed.

Distance from the dam to Kherson?  Maybe around 25 miles....so you might get a 3-minute warning....once it was destroyed....to get to higher ground.

Would the 20,000 Russian conscripts stay in the area?  No matter who the commander was....the amount of fear and chaos would be enough for most to retreat on their own....heading north.  It wouldn't surprise me if this was already mined along the M14 roadway.

Pretty harsh reality in this evolution of the war.

Oh, and just a hint....if you go to the next bridge area after this dam.....70 miles away....there are two bridges and another dam (with another reservoir behind it).  It is conceivable (at Zaporizhzhia)....that they aim at that location....triggering another massive flood, and a major problem for any retreat path.

The chief goal?  Maybe it's some weird concept of capturing or holding 20,000 Russians in a 'doom or die' situation.
