I ended up at regional fest in the Wiesbaden region this past Saturday evening. At the table, was a retired German politician and her husband.
Chatter started up (mostly with my wife and the retired political gal), and centered on Covid.
Over the past two years, I've come to notice that when my wife engages upon these....she always regulates Covid at the level of a flu, and suggests a lot of the regulation business is just 'hype'. The comeback in this conversation? Same thing from the political gal.
It's hard to say what portion of German society places Covid still as some threat level. A walk into any grocery? Probably 10-percent of people (mostly those over fifty) still wear masks. About once a month in the grocery parking lots....I'll notice someone push the cart to the car, and go to wiping down the products before they put into a car.
Fear diminished? If you look at the vacation crowd, or the fest 'player-folk'....fear has dropped to almost zero.
Do they still test? Oh yeah....from my region of Wiesbaden....from Friday results, around 188 folks tested positive. At present, around 826 folks are on some form of quarantine (out of 293,000 in population).
