As some relief to the German public....a few months ago, there was this deal 'cooked' up. You could buy a travel-anywhere railway/bus ticket in Germany, for a month, for nine Euro. This was for June, July and August. The only limit? No high-speed railway travel.
Most Germans will call it a success, and wanted something like it to continue. The federal government looked at options, and in the end....said 'no'. They didn't want to throw tax revenue into this situation.
So, here's something to go along with September's return to reality....most all regional tickets will be going up (between 2 and 4 percent). A few will go higher than 4 percent.
My own humble view of the past three months? The trains were heavily crowded, and it was a higher number of trains running behind time. If you were hoping for a seat....on more than half the trips I took....it was standing room only.
Will it return? I suspect by summer of 2023.....some deal will be made, and a 14.99 monthly ticket will occur for July and August.
