Last night...both ARD and ZDF (the two public TV networks) ran news features with Poland being a top discussion item.
The Polish government had a court case brewing, and the discussion was....there's these EU regulations to force Poland into doing something the EU way.
The Polish court system evaluated the situation and finally said (in a nice legal way) that Poland kinda runs it's own country and they didn't have to go obeying the EU regulations.
Naturally, the French and German governments got real upset about this, and the German public TV business slammed the Polish court hard.
The real problem here? No one argues about all the good that the EU did in the 1980s and 1990s....literally dozens of great things that needed to occur. At some point around 2000 to 2005....the last of these great and long desired things occurred. I suspect that even the EU officials themselves realized that. But they had to continue on....fixing things (even if they weren't broke or really desired).
By 2010, the EU mechanism had become more of a problem, than a asset (my humble opinion). The crew who sat the EU probably could have cut their days in assembly by 50-percent and spent more time in their homeland (I'd say the same for the US federal system as well).
As for the Poles? The mass majority say they want the EU to continue to exist.....just that they could do less in creating regulations or inventing ways of controlling people.
Where this will lead onto? I suspect the EU will try to suggest that the Polish government ought to exit the EU, but I don't think they have that desire.
