For a number of months, the German federal government underwrote (paid) for free Covid tests. Amount covered? 18 Euro per test.
Starting this Monday, the free deal ends.
So the new cost?
Various test centers are discussing how they will handle this.
N-TV had a piece today and discussed the landscape.
First, a fair number of the 6,000 test centers will just plain shut-down.
Second, some are talking about a fee of 20 Euro as they start out.
Third, in Bavaria....the Red Cross is suggesting they will 'sell' the test for 11.50 Euro.
Fourth, in other states...the fee is discussed at around 19.90 Euro (Munich/Berlin).
So, if you aren't vaccinated....this test deal is going to be fairly expensive.
My humble opinion is that most of the centers will be going away within six months, and the prices ought to eventually settle around 10 to 14 Euro per test. No one is going to pay more than 20 Euro unless it's connected to flying out for a vacation.
