TV Chatter

If you had never step foot in Germany....arrived today, and sat down for the next year....to view both commercial and public TV each day.....as an outsider, you'd probably say six things:

1.  There just seems to be a lot of reality shows.

2.  Cooking shows probably make up 10-percent of all TV offerings.

3.  There's a fair amount of public forum shows, with varying topics.

4.  Live TV seems to be done a lot, and folks don't freak out if a boob shows, a cuss-word is uttered, or some fake wall suddenly falls over.

5.  Germans seem to like Jungle Camp a lot, and those 1-star promis on the show are dumped upon a good bit.

6.  This Dieter Bolan guy is pretty much correct when he says something or someone is 'crap'.

So I bring up this topic because N-TV got into the discussion today....about a report done by the University of Rostock.

They reviewed everything off public and commercial TV, and then said it's mostly older white guys, with zero migration in their history, who are not handicapped/disabled, and few if any gays.

Older guys?  Well....I'd argue the news people are that way, but if you were looking for entertainment, comedy, etc....it's probably 80-percent men and women under the age of fifty.

True?  Well....x-number of actors/actresses are gay (openly) and they frequent various TV shows, game shows, and cop/murder movies.  An amazing number?  Well....it's not something I sit and openly count or care one way or another.

The migration angle?  Well....if you asked me to compare 2008 to 2021....I'd say you see probably triple the number of 'new' Germans in the mix.  A huge number?  Again, I don't count or care one way or another.

On the handicapped/disabled angle?  There's probably ten movies a year where public TV has some handicapped/disabled actor in the mix.   A huge number?  Again, I don't count or care one way or another.

Here's the thing....if you go and start inflicting damage upon the networks (even public TV)....forcing some numbers game.....people will ask about the quality of the programming and if it's crappy.....they will 'escape' to streaming video (Disney-Plus or Amazon, or Sky, or Netflix).  Frankly, it wouldn't take that much for a quarter of the audience to just exit regular TV.

Personally, I think the time has come to bring the anti-intellectual to the Chancellor's office....we need intelligence-challenged people as leaders in the country.

We also need intelligence-challenged people to run the nightly news service on both ARD and ZDF.

I'm even in favor of bringing new instructors and professors to the university system.....to bring in intelligence-challenged people to show the new reality in Germany.

Yes, lets bring on a bold new generation.
