So in the midst of the SPD-Greens-FDP coalition talks....the Greens 'boss' (Baerbock) brought up this idea. She wants a review done each time a new law comes up in the Bundestag, and it to be measured in some fashion for climate change.
N-TV discussed this briefly and is worth a read.
Opposition chatter? Well....it's a fresh new idea and I doubt if anyone has had time to sit and pause over it.
Problems? I could see dozens.
If some military emergency came up, and the Bundestag needed to approve the deployment of 3,000 German troops.....there could be an entire week added to the process while some group measures the amount of energy and CO2 issues. Some idiot could come up and suggest that rather than flying everyone to the location.....they should walk there to save on CO2.
If some Bahn enhancement were discussed....putting 500-million Euro into a Bavarian rail project....that could be stalled for several months while the experts argue about the savings of CO2.
My best guess is that the FDP will suggest this is a 'zero-option', and the SPD will agree with them....it will hinder legislative matters a good bit.
Lets face it....someone might even bring up the two major public TV networks and ask if we really need two, and it's a total waste of CO2 to keep two networks operating. That would freak out the ZDF/ARD folks. I could see the same logic with the German soccer league, and how they travel around to their games.
