Bisto Cars Going Away

The Railway folks in Germany have said the Bisto car, mostly where you can buy a coffee or beer, or a snack....will go away shortly...by the end of the year.  Most all of these were on ICE trains or inter-city type trains.

My general opinion of these?  The coffee is crap.  The beer is a marginal non-premum type.  And the food isn't worth eating.

If you walk into most German stations now....the bigger ones...they have Starbucks, McDonald's, and bakeries. The bisto train operators can marginally compete.  

In the 1980s, I can remember sitting in a full Bahn dining car...heading to Hamburg...having a fairly decent lunch for 15 DM, with the beer included.  Those days are long gone.
