Some meeting occurred this morning between Chancellor Merkel and the key government members.
What came out of this? Well....Merkel is quietly suggesting 10 additional weeks of stiff-ban-rules. This would bring us to the end of March or Easter (4 April).
If this is accepted by the sixteen states? There's a serious amount of damage done to the commercial sector (restaurants, pubs, clubs, stores, hotels, etc).
The odds of this? At least three or four states will simply not agree to this extreme shut-down situation going on for ten more weeks. I'll suggest that they agree to go up to some point in early February, and then they part ways (the sixteen states and the federal gov't)....with half going to Easter and the rest cutting 50-percent of the ban rules (yes, I'm suggesting restaurants and all store-fronts open within four weeks).
Just the 9 PM curfew by itself is enraging a fair number of younger Germans.
The spin for the position by the Chancellor? Currently, the infection rate is still a problem (11,000 were reported as newly affected as of 9 PM last night, for previous 24 hours). The death count? Nationally, over past 24 hours....near 440.
The blast-off of the vaccination program? As of last night, 635k Germans vaccinated. They did aim the initial effort at mostly people over the age of 80, medical folks, and emergency services. But you'd need to get up over couple million to suggest the program is showing some serious effect.
My guess is that this topic of ten additional weeks will be heavily discussed over the coming days.
