Last night, after the late news on ZDF (Channel Two, public TV)....they ran the Auslander Journal show. To best describe it....it's a news packaged program with three or four topics....each running around six to eight minutes....always centered on things outside of Germany.
If you asked me how many Germans watch the show (after 10 PM)....I'd probably suggest fewer than one out of forty.
So the second segment of the show centered on Los Angeles and Covid-19. It'd best to describe this story as a woeful piece. Deaths escalating....overwhelmed hospitals.....nurses pulling long shifts....anger building that only the President could fix/stop this....'doom' was the center piece of this story.
The general problem I saw upon reflecting upon it....the death rate in Germany is currently greater than the death rate in the US.
Shocker?
If you take the population in the US (roughly 330-million) and the population in Germany (83-million)....then the German death count is still 15-percent above the US (at least using numbers of the past couple of days).
DE24 talked to this numbers business this morning.
Telling the woeful tale over Germany? I doubt if ZDF or ARD (both public networks) would go to the balanced line and tell the same story over Germany and Covid-19 'frustrations'.
Just something to ponder about.
