If you'd suggested this idea a year ago....most Germans would have laughed you out of the room.
So the story goes this way.....various groups in the EU have finally decided that to reach the dream-level of CO2....you have to use nuke power a good bit.
There's a EU review underway, and the commission involved appears leaning toward making nuke power 'green'.
Upsetting a segment of the Green Party? From the older generation Greens who made anti-nuke positions back in the 1970s....it's crazy. However, being green-minded today....means worrying more about CO2, than the evils of nuke power.
Would this trigger a major problem if the EU brands nuke power as green, and split the SPD-Green-FDP government? The Greens would probably hold a meeting and trigger an internal party vote. Anyone's guess here, but I would imagine at least one-third of the Greens won't accept nuke power being a long-term solution. The plan was to shut down the final six nuke plants in Germany in 2022. There's already plans in place for the shutdown, the clean-up and the tear-down process.
