For reference, Saki is a Crimean air base....on the western side of the area....a good hundred miles from the coastline of the Ukraine.
So when the attack wrapped up on the Russian facility yesterday, you could say two things:
1. The mushroom-like cloud scarred the crap out of locals and vacationing Russians. Everyone got into cars and headed east....to cross the bridge into 'safe' territory.
The drive? Depending on where you lived on the Crimea.....it's a 50 to 70 mile drive to reach the bridge. According to the various news accounts....a line of cars backed up for 20 miles as you approached the bridge, with people freaking out completely.
Them returning? It might take five to seven days before they start to think it's safe. Hard to say where they end up at....but I expect most to be sleeping in their cars for the time being.
2. The damage at the airfield? Eight helicopters and sixteen fighters damaged in some fashion. Most won't be returning to flight status.
So the bigger part of this attack? Well....the Crimea is known for one big thing....tourism. If the Ukraine wants to make a point and do something like this just once a week...the tourist flow will stop entirely.
That mushroom cloud affect? Probably a creative idea, but it scares the crap out of people when they see this type of cloud.....thinking it's got radiation in the mix.
