Social Media And Germans

In case you were interested in Germans and their use of social media.....this is a brief talk over the issue.

So out of a hundred Germans who might be using social media....the big media is Facebook....with 77 of the hundred using it.  Twitter?  Much less so, at 5.5 of the hundred using it.  In second place?  Instagram, with 6.6 of the hundred.

This comes from Statcounter, with 2022 data.

What you can take from this?  Facebook has a seven to one lead, within German society.....on social media.  Why?  Well....WhatsApp...has become a 'must-have' within German society.  If you went to most people between 18 and 50.....asking if they have WhatsApp loaded and how often they use it....most would respond a minimum of once a day, and you might have half the users sending more than five WhatsApp messages a day.

I sat on a German bus one morning....with kids heading off to school from the village.  Within my view....there must have been 15 kids on WhatsApp....asking for images of homework from other kids in the region.

Why Instagram is number two?  Mostly for fashion, trend-setting, and influencers.

Why Twitter is the less-used one?  If you walk around the younger generation of Germans....most don't see anything of value except for what seems to be political or hyped-up chatter (like for environmental or recession talk).  I'm not saying it's a failure with German society, but it's nowhere near the nature that you see in the US presently.

As for any of this changing or evolving?  No.  Don't go expecting that.
