Three German News Stories

 1.  I discussed a couple of days ago....a police shooting in Dortmund.  This surrounded a 16-year old kid with a knife, who was apparently threatening some police.  Police fired five rounds...killing the young gentlemen.  A lot of public anger is brewing up over this.

So Focus picked up the investigation that has occurred.

It's now come out that the 16-year-old had mental issues, and for a number of months...has been suicidal (spending time almost daily at a local clinic).

Toxicology report?  Done, but will be weeks before the tests are done.

The way that the police reacted upon the initial call?  Several cars had to be sent, because this is a neighborhood heavily influenced by migrants.  Yes, a larger than average presence because of potential action.

The use of tear gas?  It's on the police recommended list, and it's generally believed that once the irritant 'hit'.....the kid would have dropped the knife.  Well....he didn't drop it.

The use of the taser?  Applied, and apparently had little to no effect.  I'll admit....this has become a more used tactic for the police, and should have had some effect unless the kid was drugged-up.

In the end, the kid kept approaching the police, with the knife drawn.

The question came up....did the kid even speak German?  Well....no.  He didn't speak English or German.  He was from Senegal.  Far as I can tell....he had yet to take any language class.

Had he been in Dortmund the whole time since entering Germany?  No.  He was originally established in a refugee center in Mainz, and apparently just up and left one day.

People hyped up because of the use of a assault-rifle?  That's another odd element of the story.  While all German police carry pistols....for some reason, out of the trunk of the police car....on this occasion, the assault-rifle was fetched and carried.

2.  Some unusual US Army accident in the Mainz region on the autobahn.  From the general description.....Army jeep was driving correctly....when some truck had come to enter the autobahn, and crossed over in an aggressive manner....forcing the US Army vehicle to take a maneuver....hitting another car.

Some banged-up folks, and a fairly damaged Army vehicle.  Traffic was backed-up on the A66 for an hour or two.

3.  For several years....folks around Darmstadt have been complaining about a low-level hum-noise.

Investigation was carried out in the past month or two.  Authorities figured out the issue.....five separate air conditioners in the city which had faulty blades.
