Being Skeptical

There are very few German 'promi' actors/singers....that I label as intellectual as well (in their talents).  One of the few....is Jan Josef Liefers.

Liefers came out this week (via a N-TV article) and talked about German news outlets and journalists, and made this odd comparison.

He suggested that a lot of what you see in the German news media seems familiar to him....having grown up in old DDR (GDR, or East Germany).

If you go back to the era from 1945 to 1990....if you lived in East Germany, you got your basic news from the government-inspired news groups that existed.  Everything was the same 'truth', the same 'message', the same 'brand' and the same 'character'.

As a East German....you generally accepted this version.  If you did feel skeptical....you might have said something but mostly just to the most trusted 'friend' that you had.  People generally lacked trust....so when you were told something....like three people dead in a building fire, you instantly inflated the number by 100-percent...figuring that was probably the true number.

Liefers viewing events from 2020.....he comes to ask stupid questions how the schools all came to be closed, and news media statements really didn't fill the common sense that you survived upon.

In this N-TV piece....Liefers suggests two societies now existing....one that believes the news media message, and one that doesn't.

Resolving this?  I think the best way for the news media to resolve this problem....jump on Liefers.  Cut his access time, and just 'forget' his name entirely.  The country doesn't need skepticism brewing....people need to buy into one theme, one story, one source of news, and just be part of the 'big' machine.
