Well....yes. Focus brought this topic up today.
Part of this is cost....some maintenance requirements....some of this is the general public using credit cards more often.
In my village....there are two ATM machines around....to be used by 4,000 locals.
Is there a way to get cash but avoiding the bank or ATM? Yes.
You can use your V-Pay card at any grocery store.....charging the amount bought, and then asking for up to 200 Euro (differs from store to store). Some gas stations will go up to 1,000 Euro per transaction.
This trend of lesser ATMs to continue? It won't surprise me if the vast majority of ATM machines are gone within a decade. People will just adjust to a card society or picking up some extra bills while grocery shopping.
