Bunkers

From 1945 to late 1970s....there were several thousand air raid bunkers in Germany.  If you walked most of the US air bases....there at least a dozen on each site.

After 1990?  Well....this attitude prevailed (it wasn't just the Americans).....everyone was hyped up to believe the 'cold war' was finished....why keep air raid bunkers.

I noticed on N-TV today.....the topic came up.

Presently, there are around 599 public shelters still functional today.  To be honest, there was a plan to tear down most of these.  The Interior Ministry said this week....they were now forming up plans to keep the present group operational, and to start bringing the bunkers back (because of Russia).

Really necessary?  No one would have put funding up for this in 2021.

Likely to take over three decades to bring these back into the range they were in the 1960s?  I would take that guess.

Did Russia go through this tear-down phase?  Well....no one speaks to that topic.  I would imagine every single bunker from the 1960s in Moscow....still exists today.  If Germans had asked....it might have forced them to examine the reason why.
