If you read through the UK Times this AM....the paperwork is being prepared, and it appears as both parliaments (Sweden/Finland) break for summer.....they will have wrapped up the 'join NATO' situation.
Done deal? I'd say it's about 90-percent done. It's not a 100-percent public feeling. From what I've read in the past week....it's around 65 to 70 percent of the public in both countries supporting this.....maybe fifteen-percent being purely neutral, and the rest feeling it will antagonize Russia (triggering them to do something irrational).
If you had polled folks in either country five years ago? It would have been marginally around 25-percent who favored this, and the rest being either neutral or wanting to avoid antagonizing Russia. Things have changed in the past month.
For the Kremlin guys? I don't think they thought much about this, or they figured this day would never come. I won't call it a big deal.....but in the event that Russia does something pretty stupid toward the Baltic states.....this adds a new view on how both will react (protecting the Baltic states).
