Yesterday, a couple of announcements were made about this 90-day situation where you can buy a monthly railway ticket (good for bus travel as well) for 9-Euro.
So here is the deal....on 1 June, you can buy the ticket but it can only be used for local and regional trains (NOT ICE or high-speed rail).
It's still worth looking at for summer travel. But the idea that you might have....going from Frankfurt to Hamburg? Via ICE trains, this would be only a 3.5-hour trip. If you said it has to be regional connections? You'd be talking about six to eight hours, depending on waiting times at each 'change'.
My advice....I'd buy the ticket and draw a 200 km circle around my local train station....with the intention of exploring as much as possible over the 90 day period with the cheap ticket deal.
