It's five-star shocker this morning.
So, as part of the effort to get people back to using railway/bus travel....the SPD government worked out the details on that 9-Euro a month ticket.
Prepare yourself....it starts on 1 June, and for three months (you pay 9 Euro each month)....you get a nation-wide travel situation with the ticket.
The original belief up to this point....it'd be a ticket that you could use for daily travel, but limited to your local 'region/zone'. Well....they blew that away....saying 'no'....it's good for the whole nation.
Have they passed this yet? That's the one key element....it's about five weeks away before this vote comes up and I have my doubts that they can manage this (tremendous costs).
If it passes? If I were an American here (active duty military, or retired)....I'd be at the machine on 1 June, and buy the ticket. I'd have thirty-odd trips planned for June, July and August.....for a grand total cost of 27 Euro (saving probably around 800 Euro minimum).
Use on ICE (high speed rail)? That's the one thing they haven't uttered. It would shock me if they went that far.....so it's probably local and regional trains. But still....out of Manheim or Mainz.....you could ride regional and be happy with the deal.
