What the cops say from this morning, around 8 AM at the Katharinenschule in Esslingen am Neckar (about five miles outside of Stuttgart, in SW Germany)....some guy attacked a woman and a kid going into the school.
7-year old girl and mother were fairly wounded, taken to the hospital.....both alive still at this point.
Attacker? Armed with a knife of some type.
Cops did find a knife, and say they 'think' it was the weapon used. Guy? Disappeared.
Appears to be just a nutcase guy, and random selection of the mother/kid.
UPDATE: Guy (24 years old) gave himself up in the afternoon. The older woman (60s) was a caregiver....not the mother.
Motive? Still none given.
