The 'State' of German Women's Soccer

From the 'big' league....there are twelve teams:

Werder Bremen, SGS Essen, Eintracht Frankfurt, SC Freiburg, 1899 Hoffenheim, Carl Zeiss Jena, 1FC Koln, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayer Munich, SC Sand, VfL Wolfsburg, and Turbine Potsdam.

As of 2020, the average salary level among the female players was around 37,250 Euro per year.

Does attendance play a part of this?  Well....yes.

Both Werder Bremen, and Bayer Leverkusen have stadiums that handle only around 1,000 fans.  At the top side.....Freiburg and Essen can handle a max of 18,000 to 20,000.

Then you toss in the money from the TV contract.  Viewership?  It's rare in the typical season to see a female game offered.  Even if you count both commercial and public TV situations....at best I might see two potential games in a normal month.

Fan base?  That's the one positive......from younger females....there's a lot of attention and interest.
