Court Story

A court case wrapped up in my region (nearby, in Limburg).  This involved an odd truck accident, where a non-truck-driver stole a truck and drove into a number of parked cars (injuring 18 folks, no one dead though).  This occurred 13 months ago, and lingered for a fair amount of time before the court session started up.

So what is said (via HR, our public TV folks)?  This Syrian-refugee guy (mid-30s) had smoked what he claimed was a awful strong marijuana joint.  In the midst of the case, he kinda admitted a fair amount of drug use (didn't say just marijuana)....and that he had parts of his memory which simply weren't there.

It's wasn't a jihadist type event....it was simply a heavy drugged-up guy.  The judge looked at everything and then commented that the fact no one died was simply 'luck'.  A step this way or a second or two earlier....various folks would have been dead.  The judge pronounced the guy guilty and went to the higher sentence....nine years in prison.

The guy will get rehab along the way.

Occasionally, you will see episodes like this....new migrants in Germany, and simply on the wrong path with drugs being readily available.  That's one of the odd aspects of modern Germany now....you can find a dealer for just about any drug you desire....within a five-minute walk of any downtown region of Germany.  Even in a small city like Limburg....drugs are just minutes away.
