Political Chatter

A new book came out by the guy who is trying hard to get Merkel's job in 2021's national election (to be the next Chancellor).

Title: New Times, New Responsibility, by Friedrich Merz.

A few comments on the CDU Party guy....Merz.  First, he was kinda 'kicked' around by Merkel a decade ago, and left the party for the private sector.  Chief reason....he's not a center-center type political player (as Merkel's hype has been for 15 years).  He simply leans to the right of center.

Second, he's a pro-business, pro-commerce individual.  If companies in Germany function well....they hire people and they pay taxes.  Things generally thrive in his idea of a successful economy.

As for the book?  I sat and read through two different and limited reviews.

Mostly what Merz writes on...is the change of culture and economics, and that this is the time to reflect upon the changes....to bring reform into Germany.

In his vision, Germany is a different place than what it was 20 years ago, and there has to be some modifications achieved....to ensure success in the market place.

A book to define his campaign?  More or less.

The chief people that are running in this competition for the CDU Party chief/Chancellorship job....are wanting to keep Merkel's dynamics in place and not really change much of anything.

How will Merz sell his beliefs?  This will be the chief topic of 2021.  Comparison to Trump's commerce ideals?  Not to that degree, but Merz does want Germany to be competitive.  Most all of the German car companies are currently in some downward spiral on future expectations, and job numbers within their environment are going to be a serious problem over the next decade.

How many folks will read his book?  I doubt if you find more than 100k Germans who admit to reading part of the book.  Political and economic dialog generally doesn't thrill Germans into reading the material.
