Forest Story

For a number of weeks, within my local state of Hessen....we've had this 'battle' brewing over the approved building of the autobahn A49.  In truth, it's to finally finish the bottom piece going from Kassel (in the north) down southward, to Ohmtal (near A7 where it'd connect).  It's a 42.5 km piece, which sadly, has to go through a forest.

From dozens to hundreds of protesters have been out there to prevent the logging crew from cutting the trees.  In response, probably 200 to 400 police have been out on various days....to keep the situation continuing.

So yesterday....the next little chapter occurred.  A lot of protest effort has been to harness themselves up to trees, and force the police to extract them (taking 30 to 60 minutes) for each situation.

Well...in yesterday's case...some young gal had her harness or rope break, with no police around.  Protest kids say otherwise, but the police have video to show that they aren't exactly there (more like ten to twenty meters away).

UPDATE: 16 Nov.  Some evidence is coming out that a policeman cut the rope.  At the time, this rope led down along the ground (I assume to a spike) and no marking indicated that it led to the tree, and held the young lady in the tree.  So he didn't know the consequences of cutting the rope.  Injury status of the gal?  HR says lower back injuries, and she remains in the hospital.

The gal?  She fell from about three to four meters.  Taken out by ambulance.

Crime scene?  Well....it's been treated that way.  Measurements were taken, pictures shot, and witness statements taken.  Some judge will have sort through this, and make some type of judgement....probably six to twelve months from now.

More to come?  Oh, guaranteed.

Violence being taken by the 'forest-kids'?  Well....this is the problem that is going (rock-throwing, crap-throwing, use of fire weapons, etc) to get them in trouble.  At some point, the police will have prosecutors on the spot, and charges will go up in nature....to a level where you might be in prison a year or two.  It won't be a joke then.
