Germany and Covid-19: 11 Nov 2020

 1.  My local town of Wiesbaden, updated their death by Corona numbers, with two more dead (making it 35 total since day one).  The two?  One was a 82-year-old woman with 'other' issues at play (they never go into detail, but usually it's COPD, fragile health from cancer treatment, or diabetes).  The second was a 80-year-old guy, who also had 'secondary' issues.

As for new infections over the past seven days?  The city is up to 735 new people with the infection (out of 293k residents).  The number since day one?  3,216.  The trend line, if you draw it out....has really hyped up over the past four weeks.

ICU bed situation?  Roughly 75-to-80 percent occupied at present.

2.  Polling was done among Hessens.....it's evenly split on the idea of keeping pubs, bars and restaurants closed.  Not a lot of happy campers on the topic.  I would imagine the pro-bar crowd (the ones who frequented bars a minimum of twice a week) are having a bad time of bar-shut-down.

3.  It's a general 'must-do' thing on the 26th of December....to take close relatives out to a restaurant.  I noticed this came up via N-TV this morning, and a poll says that Germans were asked about this, and 90-percent said 'no'....they weren't going out on the 26th this year.

4.  N-TV reported this morning....around all of Germany....roughly 30k school kids are on shut-down or quarantine at this time, along with 30k teachers.

5.  Germans have invented an expression called the 'Depression Barometer', which involves people who were already identified with depression symptoms....long before Covid-19 came along.

What the experts say....in general, before Covid was a threat....around 5-million Germans suffer from some element of depression (from mild to severe).

Roughly three out of four people with depression....are saying that since Covid arrived, they have been having a more than average rough-time with the ban rules.

Some type of rehab or 'Kur' at some medical establishment/hotel?  No one is suggesting that yet, but there's probably going to be some type of treatment developed for people in this category.
