Around three weeks ago, my local town (Wiesbaden) made the announcement....the Christmas food and gift stands that have part of the landscape for decades....will not be done this year because of Covid-19.
Today, I noticed via the local news....a lot of stores are now worried over the virus episode, ban rules, and the lack of the food/stands. In simple terms....there is no drawing card.
The city reaction? Well...they are making more effort than usual to put 'sparkle' up on the shopping district....more Xmas trees....more of everything, to convince people of some Christmas feeling.
Yeah, it's a 'look' more than it is reality.
I expect the health authorities to make a hyped-up drill over the number of customers per square meter, and without the food/gift stands....there's a spiral of economic woes coming at the end of December.
One could ask the question....is there anything else possible? And the simple answer is....NO. It's a Novemberized version of December....just a more festive November with blinking lights, and not much else. I don't think Germans will remember much of December 2020, and in the decade that passes....it'll be a highly negative topic to engage upon.
