'Last Generation' Kids, Glue, and the Brandenburg Gate

One of the ten things I advocate folks to go see in Berlin....as a tourist....is the Brandenburg Gate.

It was started up as a monument of sorts in 1788 by the Prussian King.  Three years later, it was done, without any errors or screw-ups (an important topic to mention, when compared to projects of the past twenty years in Germany).

To be honest, it was first built to represent 'peace' (in the literal way).  The original name given to it?  Friedenstor (meaning peace-gate).

Over the decades, it was a symbol of Germany.

Today?  Well....this morning, the environmental group 'Last Generation' (mostly teenagers and college kids) came up to the gate to stage a protest.....gluing themselves to the Brandenburg Gate.

Most of the past six months....it's been staged 'shows' on autobahns or at museums....so the monument is a new trend.

Current trend with the group?  I'd generally say the bulk of German society has no feeling for or against the group.  Presently, around the urbanized areas....because of traffic impediment.....it's a growing number of Germans are who are anti-Last Generation.

I'll even note this, with public talks from the Green Party members.  Most of them have openly suggested that the theme for this youth group isn't that bright or smart, with public discontent brewing over escalating energy prices and a short of natural gas brewing.  'Wrong priorities' is talked about a good bit.

The news media?  Particularly with the German public TV crowd (ZDF/ARD)?  They feature just about everything that the group does.  One might even get the idea that various moderators and journalists want the public to feel 'something' for the protest movement.

Trending each week for a new angle?  Well....you get that impression.  The handlers probably do recognize the lack of public support, and that the script for this 'theatrical' production has to end with the kids going radical....becoming junior Red Army Faction (RAF) members.

I will say this....trying to start up a group like this in the middle of a recession and energy crisis....is pretty stupid.
