I'm not that much into soccer. I can sit for two hours and observe a game.....knowing about 80-percent of the rules (don't bring up off-sides), and having a grasp for a well-played game.
Generally....there's x-amount of excitement by Germans over games.
From Saturday's FC Bayern versus SC Freiburg game (Bayern won 4-1)? Well....things are still lingering around this morning (Monday).
For a brief 8 seconds (some argue it's six....some argue it's ten)....there was a 12th player on the field for Bayern.
This has set off a debate....if Bayern did this intentionally (no, they didn't), or if the referees screwed up enough (it appears so)....to allow some guy to enter the game but not deduct a guy.
If it had been a close game? Like 1-1 at the moment.....I could see this amounting to some major goof-up.
To get this much attention....for a lousy eight seconds? That's the thing that amazes me.
We have this second by second business almost nightly in the NBA....where a second matters. The other sports....it's a lot less so.
The thing that gets me....some chatter is starting up over how to prevent a 12th player moment in the future. I tend to react and ask...in the past twenty years....how many of these 12th player moments have you had? It seems like a lot of talk over a pretty rare type situation.
So while you sit tonight in a Hanau sports bar, or some men's pub in Bremen, with the topic on the 12th guy thing 'hot'.....at least you can understand how hyped up Huns and Markus have become.
