Murder Story Update

N-TV reports today that the Kurdish Police have arrested Ali B (the guy accused by the Wiesbaden cops of murdering the local 14-year German girl).  This occurred around 2 AM local time, at the request of the German cops.

Now the problem....they don't have an extradition treaty to cover situations like this.

The fact that Iraq has the death sentence?  Well....it figures into the mess.  The rights that this guy might have?  Few if any.

The bigger question left?  How he had ID papers made up with a different name.  German cops are still asking the Iraqi Embassy how this was possible.

My gut feeling is that the Iraqis would like to cooperate and just release the guy back to Germany.  The Germans would then be stuck with some type of court session, but the max they could give the guy is probably 20 years.  A court episode in Iraq?  Highly unlikely.  But you can't say impossible.

The amusing thing left here is that the main reason that the family gave in asking for asylum....was that they feared the Kurds....yet they ran practically full-speed to get into the Kurdish territory, and this makes me think that they were Kurds to start with.
