Frankfurt police commented today over the riot-like situation from last night (Sat) and Friday evening. Reported by HR (public TV for Hessen).
General facts? Somewhere between 500 and 800 folks were gathered in what is the shopping district of Frankfurt.
On Friday evening, some argument started up between some teens. No topic is uttered over the start of this argument. Cops (2) appeared on the scene and tried to use friendly chatter (de-escalation tactics as are taught in the German police school) to calm things down. Well....the situation spiral out of control rather quickly, and the two police became a target.
Last night, the same pattern occurred, although more cops were on the scene.
Darmstadt reporting issues as well? Well.....yeah, that was also part of the summary.
None of this is what you'd call organized....just mostly teens on a wild night out....with alcohol or drug consumption likely part of the situation.
The Interior Minister for Hessen? He made a statement today....this type of activity (seen in the summer as well) has reached a point where maybe some six-month sentence to jail might be the next step....if you attacked emergency services of any type (fire, ambulance, or police). Currently, it's mostly just a fine unless you go way overboard and assault a policeman. In this case, he's suggesting that if you threw a rock at a German cop....the sentence would fall into play.
Odds of this passing? You'd have to get the Green Party 'partners' in the coalition to agree to this, and I just don't see them finding this as a decent answer.
