What N-TV reports out of Leipzig...basically amounts to four facts:
1. Saturday morning (7th), folks started gathering in the middle of town. Total number? Police say 20k. This stayed reasonably friendly, but a fair number of people went without masks. During the morning and mid-day period....it stayed peaceful.
2. Topic: Anti-Corona agenda. Basically....against the ban rules and shut-down.
3. By Saturday evening....what was left of the group...centered in the region of Connewitz (neighborhood to the far south of Leipzig). This neighborhood is more of a collection of leftists, antiracists, and university-student crowd. In this case, fires were started in the street. Some rock-throwing and police injuries were reported.
4. At least 32 journalists were either attacked in some form, or disabled in some way (irritant gas) across both landscapes.
The two groups (the Connewitz crowd and the anti-Corona crowd) connected? This is a loose association and I would suggest that the Connewitz group mingled with the anti-Corona crowd.
As for the attack on the journalists, if you view video on the business....there's just not much respect dished out on journalists by either protest group.
Examples of video: One, Two, Three.
I would stamp the demonstration and later riot as simply political disenchantment within the region.
