Three Stories In The German News

 1.  The election results in Sweden have turned into a major topic for Germans.  Winner of the Sunday election?  Right-wing party (Swedish Social Democrats), with around 30-percent of the vote.  General feeling is that it'll be a right-center-right coalition government that forms out of this.  Minimum of four parties to make a coalition government work.

Two interesting things about this election.  First, almost 84-percent of the population showed up to vote.  Second, with the exception of the 18-to-21 vote....in all other age groups....the Swedish Social Democrats won the majority of votes.

So the fright-angle of Germans?  Well....right-wing stuff.  So here's the thing....if you went to most Swedes and asked how safe any urbanized community was...most would respond that it's nowhere near the safety level that existed twenty years ago.  Drug crimes are up....robberies are common, and the police seem limited in results.  The center-left or left parties?  They should have seen this four years ago and done some things to reassure the public.

2.  The Bahn guys (railway system) announced yesterday that in the future (by 2027)....all trains will have zero steps when entering/exiting.

This is one of my odd complaints with the Bahn system.  There are at least three or four versions of railway cars.  So when you stand on the platform of a station....the train may arrive....with you find yourself stepping 'UP', or stepping 'DOWN', and in some rare moments....with no step.

How they reach this glorious moment?  Well....fixing the platforms to be one single height is one way and by consolidating the car height is another.

3.  Germans attempting to use coal or lignite briquette, for winter heating?  Well....it's a brisk business going on, and 'dealers' have pushed the pricing for that up a point or two.  The Briquettes are now running 1.2 Euro each.
