There's an odd story from two days ago that lingers in my mind. A number of ranking Russian officers who live in the Crimea (the isle to the far south of Ukraine) who have put their property up for sale (priced to go quickly) in the past ten days (at least the news folks say this).
Crimea has been Russian property since 2014 (grabbed by Russia at that point in time), and it's a hot topic for both cultures.
Ethnic division in Crimea? Well....presently, the demographics people say that 82-percent of the region is Russian. My humble view is if something occurred where Ukraine suddenly took possession....the bulk of the population (2.4-million) would suddenly flea. Where they'd end up in Russia? Unknown, but I would suggest a massive problem with finding apartments/homes.
If this were to occur, would it be a massive change in the 'war'? Oh, absolutely. But here's the thing....for decades, the Crimea was a vacation destination for Russians. A great deal of their economy was based on Russians flying in....spending money recklessly, and the local economy was built for tourists. If it's not under Russian control....where will the tourists come from, and can the Crimea survive?
