Five German News Stories

 1.  German soccer.  While they won last night against Costa Rica....it was the final of the series, and Japan beat Spain.  So Japan and Spain move ahead.....Germany returns home.

What the BIG story is today?  German sports journalists believe that Spain 'betrayed' Germany, and played marginally after Japan got ahead.  I didn't watch that game....so I can't say that's true or false.

2.  More Russian retreat action?  Focus carried a piece this AM....talking over the Zaporizia region of Ukraine.  On a map, it's about a hundred miles NE of Kherson.

3.  The RBB (Berlin public TV network) 'media house' which was to be built.....now cancelled.

A major saga is being laid out.....some massive structure on paper.  Would have cost in the 310-million Euro range.  Original estimate which people were told about....went from 60 to 188 million Euro.

Amount spent on the working of the lot, the plans, and PR?  They say around 32-million (more or less).

I looked at the pictures of what it'd look like.  Some massive 13,000 square meter complex....glass entry area.  If they had proceeded on....I seriously doubt that they would have contained it at 310-million.  Would have escalated to 350 to 400 million.

Going to be a lot of criticism to occur over this.

4.  Based on current estimates....NO boost to income for bars and clubs....over World Cup soccer action....in Germany.

5.  Court action in Frankfurt yesterday....against a radical Islamic extremist (from Kassel region).  Seven years in prison for planning an attack.

I looked over this story.  30-year old guy.  He'd gone off in 2011 for a year in prison already....for having some weapons and planning an attack then.  He spent the year in youth-control custody....then was released.

Cops talking about his criminal relations?  Well...yeah, that got brought up.

So, I'll just predict in 2029....this guy will be released, and very likely will go back into planning the next episode, and end up with another stay in prison by 2030.
