Four German News Stories

 1.  This VP for the EU arrested for money-laundering, with Qatar.....she has a unique problem.  Eva Kaili, from Greece, had a raid on her apartment.  Cops say....several bags of money were found.  At least one news source says it's in the $600,000 range.

On legal crap to get into....I'd rank this as a '7' on a one-to-ten scale.  At the very least, she's out at the EU, and there's probably at least a couple of months of jail-time.

What the money was about....to get a 'friend' of Qatar to push an agenda, with deals.

2  What was this hostage drama in Dresden all about?  Well....cops believe this guy (around age 40) had mental issues (for years), and something flare-up between him and his mother.  So he killed her.

He walks then to a local store....holds the manager and some kid hostage (others escape out of a side-door).  Cops arrive.  There's tense moments.....the guy ends up dead, with the two hostages walking out safely.

Beyond that.....no one knows much of anything, or what erupted at the family home between mom and son.

3.  WELT had a piece this AM....over Chancellor Scholz and a comment that he had....with Germans attempting to retire early from the work-force.  Basically, he wants rules in place to hinder this early-retirement idea.

Yeah, it'll be hard for any political party to make this a law....public pressure will be affecting the good intentions.

Why the position?  Basically, there's going to be a serious lack of manpower over the approaching decade, and they need every single German possible....still in the labor market.  Age set right now?  67.....and most Germans who do physical labor as part of the work-routine....will tell you by age 60....they are 'finished'.  Some will even go and say by age 55....they don't have the stamina or energy for some of these jobs.

Chancellor has a point, but I suspect one out of every ten Germans who approaches their late 50s....really doesn't care to stay around to age 67, and has the retirement built up to go early.

4.  New streaming video possibility now in Germany....Paramount-Plus is up....charging around 7.95 Euro a month.  The attractive part to this deal?  They offer all of the Star Trek shows under one single service.
