The Germans generally define long-Covid as not really getting over Covid symptoms, for weeks and months, after they test negative from their bout of the virus.
Current numbers? ARD (public TV) interviewed a researcher and they suggested in Germany (population of 83-million)....that roughly 350,000 Germans currently have long-Covid.
Eating up patience, and health funds? There's no doubt about that. There's various 'cure' programs that have started up where a patient has been identified and does a couple of weeks in a therapeutic situation. Based on interviews....most say they improved.
Cure costs? Well...this is never really discussed much in public. You usually have a clinic-to-wellness hotel situation....meals included....with various mental health people, and physical rehab folks arranging a schedule and keeping you fairly busy. It's not cheap. Plus you have to remember....some state-covered insurance still pays you your normal salary level, while in the cure deal.
