Accident Story

One of the little things that you notice about Germany in the past ten years....over the 1980s....is that racing is now something that occurs, with serious consequences.  It'll get reported from almost all German states.

Racing will take place on city streets....or German autobahns.

This comes from an incident that occurred locally yesterday....on the autobahn between Frankfurt and Wiesbaden....a stretch of roughly 20 miles.

At some point toward the middle of the day....in good sunny weather....three high performance cars were in some type of racing situation.  Two Lamborghinis and one Porsche.

There on A66, something occurred with one of the Lamborghini drivers.....with him hitting the rail, and then hitting some smaller Skoda vehicle.

Total damage at the end?  The Skoda driver is dead....four additional folks from other vehicles around the accident are taken off to the hospital, and the Lamborghini is in serious condition but will apparently live.  The two vehicles involved in the major part of the accident?  Destroyed.  The road itself?  It was shut down entirely for a couple of hours.

What happened to the other two vehicles?  They sped away.  As of last night.....the police were still looking for them or witnesses who could ID the tags.

Usually, if the police catch you speeding before you cause damage.....you lose the license for a few months, and pay a hefty fine.  There is this potential 'maturity-test' that judges could force you into.  If they think you aren't mature enough to drive....the test is applied through a mental-health clinic.  If you fail?  You won't ever drive again, without an  enormous amount of legal work, challenges, or re-testing.

But in this type of situation, with injuries or death involved?  Losing the license permanently is the least of this guy's problems.  The prosecutor of the region will go for manslaughter charges, and you could be looking at ten years in prison as a minimum.

The other guys who got away?  I would speculate that the police will review social media and eventually figure out the two.  In their case, being an accessory to this.....jail-time could occur as well, and their licenses are permanently lost.

All of this however, could drive another political agenda discussion....over lowering the rate of speed around country.

UPDATE: 1030 AM Sunday. The Skoda driver?  Still unidentified because of the fire and damage to the vehicle at 6 AM this morning.  Some suggestion by local news media that it's a young lady. The second of the three racers has given himself up.  The third racer is still unknown.  The wounded first racer?  Passed out of the hospital and apprehended/held by the police....as the person who triggered the accident.
