Afghanistan Chatter (Afternoon)

When CDU Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet was asked about the 'rescue-business' in Afghanistan....his response was:

"It is evident that the engagement was unsuccessful. It was NATO's greatest debacle since it was founded".

This afternoon, Chancellor Merkel has said that around 10,000 total Afghans are on the German list to bring out (to include embassy support, human rights people, lawyers, etc).

As for the 'debacle' description....at least two months ago....if you were a CIA operative in the country and reading the landscape....this week was fast approaching.

This afternoon via N-TV, German gov't said that the 'window' for exiting has been discussed with the US government and they (the Germans) were told such a window will exist until 31 Aug.  On the BS-scale, I give it a '10', and would suggest that this imaginary window will be closed off within the five five to seven days.  It's the same people who briefed Biden on the Taliban 'threat' and I'd regard them as a joke at this point.
