Oddly enough, this announced railway strike (starting Wed and going for 48 hours) moved Covid news a step or two down.
What the strike amounts to? Based on general chatter...around 20-percent of the railway will operate. The rest will be shutdown.
The union is asking for roughly a 3.2 percent rise.....while the Bahn itself can't agree to that....offering back only around 1.5 percent.
This Corona bonus? The Bahn says zero bonus. The union suggests 600 Euro per person.
What gets dumped into this discussion is the Green Party focus on getting all internal flights in the nation to be halted (for example, if you wanted to fly from Berlin to Hamburg, or Hamburg to Munich....it would not be allowed). Being able to trust the Bahn to deliver you....is simply not possible on a 100-percent level.
The odds that a second strike will occur within four weeks (another 2-day deal)? I'd say it's near the 80-percent level. I don't think the Corona bonus will ever be agreed upon (unless it gets dropped to 150 Euro).
So if you are one of those folks who had urgent business in Germany here on Wed, and find yourself stuck somewhere....remember, the bus network is still operating, and you could still fly from places.
